Expressive Body Movement Therapy EBMT

group therapy

 feeling free, happier and more alive

Movement to music as a powerful means of non-verbal communication and creative self-expression, meeting your physical, emotional, spiritual needs, and authentic feelings.

Movement is the primary language shared by all human beings.

Body movement is a common denominator of expressive, emotional, cognitive and communicative people skills and shared among different cultures.

EBMT uses the body language and movement as psychotherapeutic tools to help people to cope with blocks, tension, disharmonies, and physical or mental discomfort. It enables the recovery of the expressive, communicative, and creative core of people (as individual or group), promoting an emotional, cognitive, social and physical integration.

The key theoretical principles are:

  • Body and Mind interact, so that a change in movement affects total functioning;
  • Movement reflects personality;
  • The therapeutic relationship is mediated partly non-verbally, for example through the therapist’s mirroring the client’s movement;
  • Movement has a symbolic function and as such can reveal unconscious processes;
  • Movement improvisation allows the client to experiment with new ways of being;
  • Movement can permit the recapitulation of early object relationships through non-verbal mediation.

According to general belief that movement reflects an individual’s thoughts and feelings, EBMT psychotherapist acknowledges and supports clients’ movements, encouraging the development of new movement patterns and emotional experiences.

EBMT has been demonstrated to be clinically effective at improving body image, self-awareness, self-esteem, attentiveness and communication skills.
