Frequently Asked

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The key difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy lies in the recommended time required to see benefits. Counselling usually refers to a brief treatment that centres around behaviour patterns. Psychotherapy focuses on working with clients for a longer-term and draws from insight into emotional problems and difficulties. Psychotherapy requires longer training, and while a psychotherapist can also provide counselling, a counsellor is not necessarily trained or skilled to offer psychotherapy.

What equipment and technical requirements do I need for online counselling / psychotherapy?

You will require:

A computer processor of 1 GHz minimum, 2 GHz preferred. Broadband internet with minimum of 256 kbps upload (DSL or cable); 512 kbps preferred;

  • Webcam;
  • good quality speakers;
  • a good quality microphone;
  • Skype installed onto your computer.
How can I make an appointment?

It’s that simple. Please contact me sending your message on the form provided and ask for online counselling with an indication of what days and times you may be available GMT. We will arrange a 10-15 minute free initial consultation as a way of knowing each other and determine if you are a candidate for online counselling. If so, subsequent appointments will be arranged at a convenient time during the day or evening.

How many sessions will I need?

Number of sessions depends on your condition and commitment to the treatment. We will discuss options together.

What is Client confidentiality?

It is the requirement that I, as counsellor/psychotherapist, protect my client’s privacy by not revealing the contents of therapy with third party and the fact that my client is in therapy. Any information shared in my monthly supervision session is not traceable back to the specific client, and it means that I do work to a high standard, improving my ability in providing value to my clients. The only time that I must break confidentiality is in extreme circumstances when my client or somebody else are at risk, or when the law requires it. Click on http://www.psychotherapy.org.uk/16/information/43/ethical-principles-and-code-of-professional-conduct or http://www.ordinepsicologiveneto.it/deontologia/codice-deontologico/ for more information about ethics and confidentiality and requirements set by my Professional Bodies.

Can I start online counselling / psychotherapy with you if I am around the world?

There is no doubt that online therapy eliminates geographic restraints. I treat clients from anywhere in the world, but you have to know that some US States such as California and Texas have different licensing requirements and treatment guidelines, and online therapy may only be received from therapists within your State of residence.
